What’s New in Gardening? – Exciting New Breeds for 2024

Last month we looked at some of the first exciting new plant varieties for us to grow in 2024.

As the seed and plant catalogues start to arrive this autumn, online or through our letter boxes, we will take a peep of what’s available to enhance our gardens – and make our neighbours envious!

So what’s first?

Delphinium Red Lark – what a great start with a completely new colour break in this popular perennial. Intermediate in height, the flowers are a true red in colour.

Plants will be available next year online and in posted catalogues.

Cosmos Apricot Lemonade – cosmos is an old favourite which has recently been given a lot of attention by the flower breeders. They are easy to grow and seed can be sown direct into the garden. Bushy plants grow to around 45cms and bear large flowers. As the name indicates, Apricot Lemonade is a unique new flower colour!

Seeds are available on line from a number of companies.

Glimmer Impatiens – most of us love ‘Busy Lizzies’ to use the common name! Their pretty flowers adorn hanging baskets, tubs and borders in our summer gardens.

The new ‘Glimmer’ series however produce lovely double flowers in a range of colours.

They have also been bred to be resistant to a fungal disease that can decimate normal types!
